FAQ

If the answer you’re seeking is not included below, feel free to inquire through ‘Contact’ in the menu.

How does this process work?

Services are available by appointment only. If you are interested in services, you can contact Hayley through call/text at 425-922-6843 to schedule a drop off to my studio, or a pick up from your home or a veterinary office. House/vet call pick ups are available for a fee of $30 +$1 per mile to/from my studio. If you are expecting a pet to pass, but not sure when it will be, I understand these situations can tend to be stressful, so I try to stay somewhat ‘on-call’. Please contact me with any details you have; you are welcome to keep me updated as much as you see fit, given your specific situation.

Where is your studio located?

My studio is located out of my home, at 1428 SE 140th ave Portland, OR 97233. I understand the hesitation for some about visiting a home for professional services. Please feel free to contact me for a pick up, should this be the case for you.

Do you require a deposit?

For birds/big game, a 50% deposit is required. For pets, a $100 deposit is required.

My pet has passed…now what?

If your pet has passed and you are interested in preservation services, call/text Hayley at 425-922-6843 to schedule a drop off/pick up. Your pet is safe to be at room temperature for up to 24 hours after they pass if you are able to transport them within that time window. If not, please see storage information below.

How should I store my pet after they have passed?

If transporting your pet within 24 hours of their passing, no kind of cold treatment is necessary. Pets are OK to be at room temperature for about 24 hours after passing. You are, however, welcome to wrap/place them in whatever blankets or vessel that you see fit. Please note that whatever container/laundry you leave with your pet, it will not be returned to you.

Should you end up wanting to wait and think about how you want to preserve your pet, or if transport within 24 hours is not accessible at the time, the best thing to do is as follows:

  1. Wrap your pet snugly in a clean towel/blanket/piece of clothing.

  2. Place the wrapped body in a plastic/trash bag, and tightly seal it, making sure to expel any air bubbles.

  3. Put into a freezer if you are able to find one big enough. This is not unsanitary and will not spoil/affect any goods in the freezer. If you are unable to access a freezer large enough, find a cooler (either plastic or disposable styrofoam) and enough ice to cover your pet. Change the ice out accordingly, until you are able to transfer your pet to processing. Do NOT get your pet wet.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions regarding this process.

What is the general turnaround time?

Turnaround times vary for each species/method of preservation. Here is a general turnaround time for the most used services: Bone processing: 2-8 months. Tanning services: 4-8 months. Birds: 4-6 months. Big game: 8-10 months. These estimations are subject to change. Feel free to contact me if you don’t see your service turnaround time listed.

Can I contact you for an update?

I would kindly ask to refrain from asking for any updates on your project if you are able. If there are any issues with your project, you will be contacted ASAP. If it is past your estimated completion date, you are welcome to reach out.

Why don’t you provide updates during the process?

I very much understand the intimacy of these projects that I am honored to take on for you. Unfortunately, having to keep track of each individual’s project and having time to put aside to update each and every one of them would push production time significantly further. Different specimens also require different processing times/approaches. Some are quicker than others, but each is put into rotation once it’s taken in at time of acceptance. If you are wondering when your project will be done, please refer to the invoice you were given upon release, which has an estimated completion date included on it. If it is past your expected finish date, please feel free to contact me.

Can I ship my pet to you?

You can certainly ship your pet to me if you are not local! Contact me for detailed instructions on how to ship your pet.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, card (all), Venmo, and Cashapp.

Am I supposed to tip you?

You are not required to tip, nor do I expect it. If you are exceedingly satisfied with your services and feel so inclined to tip, tips are certainly appreciated(:
